Matrah city

 

Muttrah is one of the oldest governorates in Muscat Governorate in the Sultanate of Oman, and is considered one of the oldest and most famous Omani ports throughout history.


🔹 Geographical Location:


Located on the northern coast of Oman, adjacent to the state of Muscat to the east.


Extending along the Sea of ​​Oman, it forms an important seafront.

🔹 Historical Significance:


It was famous as a major trading port that received ships coming from India, East Africa, and Persia.


It played a pivotal role in Oman's maritime trade for centuries.


It contains the historic Muttrah Fort, which dates back to the Portuguese era. 

🔹 Notable Landmarks:


Mutrah Souq: One of the oldest markets in the region, it features narrow alleys and the fragrant scents of incense and spices.


Mutrah Corniche: Stretching along the coast, it is a popular promenade and tourist site.


The National Museum of Oman is nearby, showcasing Oman's rich history.

🔹 Nature and Population:

It is characterized by mountains surrounding it to the rear and the sea to the front, giving it a beautiful natural character.

Its population is a mixture of Omanis and expatriates due to its status as a commercial and tourist area.
